ATTACK OF THE CULT MOVIES at FilmBar in Phoenix- You can do worse than see it

This April, FilmBar is under siege from its Attack of the Cult Movies film series! Kicking off the insanity is the definitive cult spaghetti western, El Topo (April 3-6) from Alejandro Jodorowsky. It sets the cinema back 900 Years! It’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail (April 10-13). “You’re not cured yet, boy…” A Clockwork Orange (April 17-20). How can you destroy an army that’s already dead? Find out in Army of Darkness (April 24-27). A month long Cult Movie Poster Show in the lounge opens First Friday 04/03, presented by Film Programmer Andrea Beesley. In addition FilmBar will have a selection of movie posters for sale (04/03 only) with proceeds to benefit charity. Tickets: http://goo.gl/ooRcU2 (additional show times added during the month).

El Topo. Classic Americana and avant-garde European sensibilities collide with Zen Buddhism and the Bible as master gunfighter and mystic El Topo (played by writer/director Alejandro Jodorowsky) tries to defeat four sharp-shooting rivals on a bizarre path to allegorical self-awareness and resurrection. As it seeks an alternative to the Hollywood mainstream, El Topo is also the most controversial quasi-Western head trip ever made! (April 3-6)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Monty Python team is at it again in their second movie. This time we follow King Arthur and his knights in their search for the Holy Grail. This isn’t your average medieval knights and horses story – for a start, due to a shortage in the kingdom, all the horses have been replaced by servants clopping coconuts together! (April 10-13)

A Clockwork Orange, starring Malcolm McDowell, portrays an oppressive lawless society where man is reduced to little more than a machine. The film introduced into popular culture the concept of “ultra-violence,” as singing, tap-dancing, derby-topped hooligan Alex (McDowell) has a “good time” – at the tragic expense of others. (April 17-20)

Army of Darkness. Forced to lead a makeshift Dark Ages army against the demonic Deadites, who possess all the deadly magic of hell, the shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed, reluctant 20th century time traveler Ash (cult superstar Bruce Campbell) must save the living from the dead, rescue his medieval girl friend and get back to his own time. (April 24-27)
